Below are FAQs (frquently asked questions) regarding enrolement at TAFE WA. Please note that this is not an exhaustive list and more information can be found at the TAFE WA official website.
Enrolment for Full Time Studies
Enroloment for the majority of full-time study qualifications cn not actually be done without applying for admission through the TAFE WA Admissions Centre first. For all you need to know about the full-time applications process click here.
Application and enrolment for other course types are described below :

Admission information for Part-time study of qualifications (or units within a qualification)
Part-time study for admissions purposes means that you wish to study particular units in a qualification that are being offered for study and not the whole, structured full-time qualification program. You can find out more about this type of study and what it offers you under 'Course Types & Study Options' (link to part-time section).
Beofore Enrolment how do I find out which units are available for part-time study?
Not all qualifications are available for part-time study. For qualifications that are available, some units within them may not be offered for part-time study or be offered every semester.
Consequently, people interested in studying part-time should not refer to the qualifications (and attached units) listed for full time study.
Part-time unit offerings are published twice a year - in January and in June - by all metropolitan TAFE WA Colleges through a lift-out in The Sunday Times.
This listing provides details on the units being offered in each qualification, their start dates, and the day and time of the class.
The same listing is also available online in electronic (PDF) format through TAFE WA College websites and this site (This will be available when colleges have decided what will be offerred part-time.
Note: For part-time offerings outside the metropolitan area, please contact your nearest regional TAFE WA College for details of enrolment.
Is there a TAFE application & enrolment process?
There is no application process for part-time studies and you do not need to fill out any forms or send in any documents. Part-time entrance is handled by each TAFE WA College and does not go through TAFE WA Admissions. Gaining entry to part-time study is as simple as turning up and enrolling at the time and place listed in the Part time studies guide each semester.
Are there any entrance requirements or admission criteria for enrolment?
The minimum entrance requirements and any selection criteria listed under each qualification in the TAFE WA full-time studies guide and on this website do not apply to part-time study.
Generally, there are no admission requirements for most units offered part-time, however, it is recommended that you choose appropriate units and have at least a your 10 level of literacy before enrolment.
For some specific units, College study areas may choose to apply admission requirements or criteria in order to ensure an appropriate level of ability. These requirements are usually listed in the part-time studies guide and can also be provided by the relevant study area.
How/when do I complete enrolment and am I guaranteed a place?
Enrolment dates, times and locations are listed in the part time studies guide wherever known. If all details are not listed, please contact the relevant College to receive this information. Enrolments normally take place at the relevant campus in late January (for 1st semester) and late June (for 2nd semester).
No places are guaranteed for part time study and enrolment is always on a 'first come, first served' basis. Therefore, please ensure you make it to the appropriate enrolment session and contact the relevant study area if you need to check the availability of places.
If you're unable to attend your enrolment session, make sure you give authority and make arrangements for someone to enrol for you.
Can I still get into part-time study if I miss the enrolment date?
Depending on whether there are still places available, you may be able to still enrol in units being offered for part-time study, even if you miss the listed enrolment date. To find out, please contact the relevant TAFE WA College and study area. 'Top up' advertisements are often placed by TAFE WA Colleges after the enrolment period has finished if a number of qualifications still have spare places.
Are there conditions/requirements of study or enrolment?
It is common for some units to be clustered (delivered together) or, though delivered separately, required to be studied at the same time. These details are normally listed on the part time studies guide and you can identify further details by contacting the relevant study area.

Admission information for Short Courses
This website uses the term 'Short Courses' to refer to a range of courses that last from a day/weekend to several weeks and do not result in the awarding of a qualification. Types of short courses available through TAFE WA Colleges include: Adult Community Education (ACE) Courses, lifestyle/leisure courses, personal & professional development courses, and registration/certification courses.
How do I find out what short courses are available for enrolment?
The main type of short courses listed on this website is Adult Community Education (ACE) Courses. These are run throughout the year but there are four key promotion and enrolment periods each year that coincide with the start of each Term.
You can also contact Challenger TAFE, Swan TAFE and West Coast TAFE at any time or refer to the short course page within this website.
Other types of Short Courses that do not come under the ACE category are also run by all TAFE WA Colleges. In future, some of these may also become available through this site, however, for now, please refer to each College's website for further details on these courses.

How do I gain short course enrolment?
There is no application process for short courses and no admission criteria. Entrance is handled by each TAFE WA college and is as simple as turning up and enrolling at the relevant campus. Most Colleges also allow you to enrol by post, fax, phone, or over the internet.
Are places always available or guaranteed?
If you enrol before each short course starts, you should have little trouble in getting a place. However, if a class is full or cancelled you may need to wait until the next enrolment period.
How much will it cost and when do I have to pay?
Government-funded short courses (like ACE) are inexpensive and excellent value for money. Most courses cost between $20 (e.g. a single session) and $200 (e.g. 1 session per week over a 5 to 7 week period).
Admission information for Entry or Bridging qualifications
Bridging and entry qualifications are designed for those who are looking for a pathway into broader vocational education and training programs. They are delivered to ensure that age, gender, disability, ethnicity, language or family situation are not barriers to studying at TAFE WA.
How do I find out what Bridging or Entry courses are available for enrolment?
For 2006, there are 28 qualifications to choose from in bridging, entry and first steps back to learning at TAFE WA. The qualifications are at different levels, each requiring a different level of skills and knowledge.
All of these qualifications are listed in Part four of the 2006 TAFE WA Full time studies guide. This list is also updated and made available on this website at: Bridging & Entry Courses.
You can also consult directly with the Career Development Centre which can help you identify the most suitable qualification to begin with.

The application process for bridging or entry qualifications is relatively simple and done directly through the relevant TAFE WA college (not through TAFE WA AdmissionsCentre). Just see the location listed for the specific qualification you are interested in and contact the relevant TAFE WA college or campus.
Any minimum entrance requirements that do exist are listed under the qualification in the TAFE WA full-time studies guide or on this website. There are no selection criteria for these courses.
Most entrance requirements that do exist only serve to identify certain target groups for delivery of that program, which is generally because it has been customised for them (e.g. indigenous programs). All individuals seeking a bridging or entry course should be able to find one that suits them and is available.
Are places always available or guaranteed for ?
Places are not guaranteed, but a place in an appropriate program should almost always be available.
At enrolment how much will it cost and when do I have to pay by?
Students enrolling in entry or bridging qualifications pay the standard enrolment fee ($22.20 per semester for 2005) and may pay a resource fee (depending on any materials required for the program), but are exempt from tuition fees.
Admission information for apprenticeships & traineeships
Apprenticeships and Traineeships are employment-based training programs that are a valuable alternative for those who wish to obtain recognised qualifications through employment. Apprenticeships take around four years full time and lead to becoming a qualified tradesperson. Traineeships last around 12 months full-time and around two years part-time and are generally conducted in non-trade areas.
What are the requirements for starting an apprenticeship or traineeship?
To begin an Apprenticeship and Traineeship you must be 15 years or older and have completed at least Year 10 (or the equivalent). You will also need to find an employer willing to employ you as an Apprentice or Trainee.
How do I get into an apprenticeship or traineeship or find out more about them?
TAFE WA Colleges cannot enrol you in an apprenticeship or traineeship directly, but provide the off the job training component of these programs.
The relevant organisation to speak to about apprenticeship and traineeship opportunities and how to get into one is the Apprenticeship and Traineeship Support Network (ATSN). They administer apprenticeships and traineeships and help connect applicants with employers.
Admission information for flexible learning courses
Many units and even some whole courses at TAFE WA are available through some form of flexible delivery - either through correspondence, online or self-paced delivery (you attend and study at the College at your own pace).
Most of these units and courses can be started at any time and either run for a set time from when you start or have flexible/open delivery periods.
Admission into these units or courses is done directly with the relevant TAFE WA College through its relevant study area or specialised unit (off-campus, distance/open learning, online delivery, etc).
