Your first accomodation after migrating to Perth is so important as to how you will settle in Western Australia. Quite a number of new migrants have relations or friends with whom they stay for their first few weeks in WA. Most people rent before buying as they don't really know the areas and, most importantly, don't know where they will be working. All too often families buy a house in a neighbourhood that they like only to find some time later that they have to move for work reasons.

Accommodation Research

When migrating you will need accomodation upon your arrival to allow you to do as much research as possible. Some of this can be done prior to arriving in WA but the most valuable will be done once you have landed and settled after a few days. It can be quite an adventure finding out about the different areas and neighbourhoods. It's best to consider taking time to get the knowledge and feeling of areas that you may wish to consider moving to. This includes, schools, shopping facilities, recreational clubs and how close it is to freeways and highways plus public transport. In terms of immediate accomodation there are houses for rent on very short term basis, like a holiday home or apartment - these will give you the breathing space required to carry out the above research.

Getting a house

Getting a house that is suitable to all the needs of the family is a big decision and requires a lot of consideration. Ask others including real estate agents, shop assistants, fellow church goes, Hairdressers, the post office assistants and others you may meet in a cafe or restaurant. It can be amazing what you can learn in this way - getting to the heart of the people who already live in that particular area. People are usually willing to let you know what their experiences have been. Get the whole family involved and make it any enjoyable task!

Perth Hotels

Perth boasts a wide range of excellent hotels in the city and the suburbs together with motels, budget facilities, serviced apartments. Sure this will give you the immediate accomodation solution after just migrating, but whilst a beautiful hotel is good to stay in, it can become difficult after a short time when children are involved, plus they are expensive.

There are a number of services provided by rental organisations whereby you can get a rental property for a 'short term' lease, but you would need to pay a much higher rent. This is well worth considering as it will help you gain some valuable time in choosing where you would or would not want to be long term.

Rental Property

Rental property is at an all time low in terms of availavbility mainly driven by the boom in the housing market - this is why the niche market of short term rental for people migrating and looking for short term accomodation has done so well in recent times.

After all said and done when migrating the single most important factor in settling in is putting a roof over your head. Channel considerable efforts into this area, keeping the cost as low as possible while still giving yourself a good standard of living and things will feel so much better in that first period of moving. A year or so after migrating this settling in period will be a distant memory but one that should be enjoyable!
